There seem to have been a few saints commemorated in recent weeks who served faithfully in this function. It has reminded me of Our Lord's tactical tip for wedding guests - don't make a beeline for the best seats. But the humblest people at a wedding are not the ones seated at the table by the kitchen doors, they are actually the people we overlook because they serve us so well we are hardly aware they too are at the party. <br /><br />Our Lord washed his disciple's feet and St Peter is imagined as the keeper of the pearly gates.
